Awesome food and drink. But service in the bar is spotty. Bartender gets distracted by conversation and forgets about you.

Apparently management nor owner are concerned with reviews or bad experiences. I posted this over a month ago and there is still nothing resembling an apology from anyone in charge. Our experience has now been made that much worse. Being a previous restaurant owner... this is bad biz!

My boyfriend and I came to this restaurant for the first time this past week. It was a very special night for us, we were all dressed up, I was in a long gown, he in a suit. No one was real welcoming or interested in striking up conversation or asking if we were celebrating something special.

Service was slow. We sat for a very long time before our server came to our table. They did keep the water full though, that was nice. As far as our meal, the soup and appetizer were good. - server never came to the table to check though until we were finished. I had the Mahi tuna... I had asked the server how the restaurant cooks their tuna - as far as doneness (I clarified) stating that I like it rare - he said they cook it med rare. I was ok with that being thats how they normally do it. WELL..... when I got it it was well done, there was not even a tinge of pink, it was dry, tough and barely warm. The green beans had a caramelized onion sauce that was scorched, black in color - no caramelized flavor at all. The garlic mashed potato had a thick, hard, rubbery crust on the bottom. Again, neither the beans nor the potato were very warm. Also, again, our server did not come back to our table. He passed our table a few times, completely ignoring us - until I stacked up the dishes, then he stopped. At this point, as he was picking up the dished I stacked for him, he finally asked how things were - when we told him of our experience/complaint, he simply said oh and then asked if we wanted dessert... no concern to ours at all.

We were very disappointed, great atmosphere, we had high hopes for our special night - too bad it turned out not so special because of this poor meal/experience.

It was alright. The atmosphere was charming and our waitress was good. For two people, an appetizer platter, one soda, and 2 meals was $70, not counting tip. Considering Cajun food was invented by poor people of color, it's a little odd that it would be more expensive than other places. But it was our anniversary, so ok.

My significant other enjoyed his Jambalaya and the crab puffs were delicious.

I am, however, disappointed that they use Styrofoam for their take home. Styrofoam never decomposes and is harmful to the environment as well as emits harmful gases which is unhealthy for humans. For what they charged, they could afford to give plastic containers that are reusable, microwaveable, and recyclable. Even McDonald's doesn't do Styrofoam anymore. As we were from out of town, the take home we brought back to the hotel can't be reheated because of the Styrofoam and therefore half our meals were a waste.

Love the atmosphere, and the super cozy feel of the basement bar. Could spend all night tucked in the corner down there. Bartenders were great!

Took my wife here for her birthday. We are both fans of cajun and creole food, New Orleans culture, and fine dining, so I assumed this would be an excellent choice.

It's tucked away downstairs and really does feel like a speakeasy in New Orleans. I did not know there would be live jazz and it was very well respected local musicians which was very impressive. Unfortunately there wasnt really anywhere to sit where you could still have a conversation at your table. We ended up sitting by the kitchen and the temperature was very, very hot. We considered leaving based on the temperature.

They have a large selection of appetizers and given that my wife LOVES crab and similar seafood, we tried the crawfish cheesecake, pecan crab cakes, and crab puffs. The cheesecake was served with French bread (think crab bread if you're not familiar with this particular New Orleans treat) and my wife loved it. I thought it was a little cheap tasting. The crab cakes were a little dry but paired with a wet slaw that complimented them well. The crab puffs were perfect.

For entrees we tried the crawfish etouffee and tasso and shrimp fettuccine. We found them both to be bland compared to the actual New Orleans versions-- I actually believe that, in Madison, New Orleans Takeout has better etouffee and Angelo's has better cajun fettuccine. The menu says they can be made hotter upon request but the issue wasnt just heat-- they were missing flavor. Same with the included gumbo, it was quite bland.

For desserts we sampled the peanut butter pie, creme brulee, and mocha mousse torte. They were all excellent although not particularly New Orleansy. Perhaps we should have tried the pecan pie.

The service was excellent, our servers were kind and very attentive.

My wife says she would definitely come back. I have mixed feelings. I am more critical than her, but she's also more of a gourmet foodee than I-- I just know what I like.

It was a memorable, affordable, quasi-fine dining experience. There are some cajun/creole dishes here you cant find elsewhere in Madison, but plenty of others you can find better elsewhere in Madison
